Pasadena Pops salute ‘Red, White and Blue’
LA CANADA FLINTRIDGE -- The Pasadena Pops Orchestra’s summer
season begins with a bang Friday and Saturday with the “Red, White
and Blue” salute to the Fourth of July at Descanso Gardens.
Acclaimed recording artist Jubilant Sykes will sing four American
spirituals, the Swing Dolls’ toe-tapping tunes will evoke memories of
the Andrews Sisters, and POPS Concertmaster Barry Socher will play a
solo tribute to legendary American composer Charles Ives.
Maestra Rachael Worby leads the orchestra.
The season continues with “Fit for a King!” July 18 and 19,
including Beethoven’s Emperor Concerto to Nat King Cole; “Kick Up
Your Heels” Aug. 15 and 16, featuring Louise Reichlin & Dancers in
choreography inspired by Tchaikovsky’s “Sleeping Beauty”; and “Beyond
the Stars” Sept. 5 and 6, showcasing Mozart’s Jupiter Symphony.
A one-night, non-subscription benefit will feature “Cherish the
Ladies,” an Irish traditional music group, on Aug. 2.
All concerts begin at 7:30 p.m. Descanso Gardens is at 1418
