Burbank Police pays respect to fallen Southland officers
The flag outside Burbank Police Headquarters flew at half-staff this
week, and officers wore black armbands out of respect for an
Inglewood motorcycle officer who died in the line of duty Tuesday and
a Los Angeles Police Department detective killed late Wednesday.
Inglewood Officer John Frederick Lee Small died from injuries he
sustained when two cars collided and careened into Small’s motorcycle
along the Pomona (60) Freeway in Diamond Bar.
LAPD Det. Abiel Barron was killed Wednesday during a car crash in
the Cajon Pass that left another detective critically injured.
Police spokesman Sgt. William Berry said the lowered flag and
armbands are worn from the time Burbank Police become aware of the
death of an on-duty officer until after the funeral.
“We look at it as a local tragedy,” he said. “We generally do that
for any officer in Southern California.”
