AND THE WINNERS ARE ...

The Burbank Leader and its sister newspaper, the Huntington Beach

Independent, captured five first-place awards at the 2002 Better

Newspapers Contest sponsored by the California Newspaper Publishers

Assn.

The Leader and sports editor Jeff Tully won first place for sports

coverage for weekly newspapers with a circulation of between 11,000

and 25,000. The winners were announced Saturday at an awards luncheon

in San Francisco.

The Independent, one of seven papers in the Times Community News

family, received first-place awards for sports coverage,

environmental and agricultural reporting, sports photo and front-page

layout.

HOLIDAY CLOSURES

The following will be closed Friday in observance of the Fourth of

July holiday:

* All city offices, including City Hall.

* All libraries and post offices.

* All national and state government agencies, including Social

Security and DMV.

* The office of the Burbank Leader.

Trash collection will proceed on schedule and parks will be open,

as will all police and fire departments.
