ADULT SCHOOL
FEE INCREASE
WHAT HAPPENED
The board unanimously approved a registration fee increase from
$15 to $20 for the Adult School Academic Learning Lab, effective
Sept. 1.
WHAT IT MEANS
Money generated by the $5 increase, the first in the adult
school’s 10-year history, will be used to replenish supplies and
textbooks. According to board President Trish Burnett, the increase
was warranted because the school is not meeting its financial
obligations and is drawing money from the school district’s general
fund.
TEST WAIVER REQUEST
WHAT HAPPENED
At the state’s request, school board members voted unanimously to
file a waiver to substitute California Standards Test scores for the
Golden State Examinations, which were canceled as part of the 2002-03
fiscal year budget cuts at the state level. The test is required to
be eligible for the Golden State Seal Merit Diploma.
WHAT IT MEANS
The waiver is available to 2003 graduating seniors who were
prevented from meeting requirements for Golden State Seal Merit
Diploma because the spring Golden State Examination test was
canceled.
