Doctor elected chair of Lung Assn. branch

BURBANK -- Giovanna Smith, a pulmonologist at the Institute for

Better Breathing who teaches children about asthma and other lung

diseases, was recently elected 2003-04 chairman of the board for the

American Lung Assn. of Los Angeles County.

Smith has been a member of the institute, which has offices in

Burbank and Glendale, since 1996, and treats patients at several area

hospitals including Providence St. Joseph Medical Center in Burbank.

Car rental company promotes manager

BURBANK -- Todd Lee Carl, who managed an Enterprise Rent-A-Car

branch in Glendale, was promoted last week to area manager of two

Burbank offices.

Carl, 32, who began working for the rental car company in 1997,

was promoted July 9. He oversees 25 employees at two Burbank rental

offices, including the airport branch.

Chamber to host Toastmasters

MAGNOLIA PARK -- For residents who want to improve their public

speaking skills, the Burbank Toastmasters meets at noon every

Wednesday at the Burbank Chamber of Commerce.

The organization helps build confidence by giving speaking tips

and ample practice. The chamber is at 200 W. Magnolia Blvd. For more
