La Providencia selling cookbook
Hot off the presses is the “Ladies of Great Taste” cookbook,
produced as a fund-raiser by La Providencia Guild, which supports
Childrens Hospital Los Angeles.
Organizing the 14-month project was Charlene Dettmann, who, along
with her 14 committee members, checked and rechecked recipes for
accuracy. Member Sharon Terranova was the first to contribute recipes
to the cookbook and received a free copy.
A total of 800 recipes were contributed by members, past
presidents and former members and more than 700 are included in the
cookbook.
There are 10 categories, such as Pies and Fruits, Meats, Main
Dishes and Microwave and Pasta, Poultry and Fish. A special feature
is the book’s hard cover, which can folded to sit on a counter while
preparing a dish. There are also pages at the end of each category to
add favorite recipes.
Member Rilla Rogan has painted a watercolor of a lady on the page
before each category.
The cookbook costs $25 and can be ordered by calling Dettmann at
845-6992. It will also be sold at the guild’s annual fashion show on
Oct. 5. Proceeds will go to Childrens Hospital.
This is the guild’s second cookbook. Cookbook chairwoman Dettmann
also was in charge of that cookbook’s publication. The first cookbook
was published in honor of the guild’s 40th anniversary 16 years ago.
