O’Connor named ’03 Woman of the Year
BURBANK -- Longtime Burbank resident Mary Alice O’Connor has been
named Woman of the Year for 2003 by the Zonta Club of the Burbank
area.
O’Connor, a 60-year Burbank resident, was selected for her
outstanding contributions to the community. She will be honored at
the club’s annual Woman of the Year Luncheon at 11:30 a.m. Nov. 8 at
The Castaway, 1250 E. Harvard Road.
O’Connor has volunteered her time for several organizations over
the years, including the Friends of the Burbank Library, the Burbank
Board of Education, the Burbank Symphony and the La Providencia
Guild. She is the recipient of many awards, including the YMCA of
Glendale’s Woman of Heart and Excellence award.
Zonta International is a worldwide service organization of
executives and professionals working to improve the status of women.

Blood drive today in honor of 9/11 victim
MEDIA DISTRICT WEST -- A blood drive in memory of Dr. Yeneneh
Betru will be from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. today inside the Bob and Dolores
Hope Conference Center at Providence St. Joseph Medical Center, 501
S. Buena Vista St.
Betru, a member of the hospital’s medical staff, was aboard the
plane that crashed into the Pentagon during the Sept. 11, 2001,
terrorist attacks.
