Laptop scam leads to armed robbery
Burbank Police are searching for two men in their 20s who are
suspected of committing armed robbery during a $1,500 scam.
A 30-year-old Arleta man was entering Best Bet at 1501 Empire
Way about 10:20 p.m. Tuesday when the suspects approached him with
an offer to buy four laptop computers for $2,000, Police Sgt. William
Berry said.
The victim bartered down the price and they moved the merchandise
from the suspect’s vehicle to his, Berry said. After he asked to look
inside the boxes, one of the suspects pulled out a box cutter and
grabbed the money from the victim’s hand. The two men then ran away.
The boxes contained heavy catalogs, Berry said.
