Mary and Mariano Tomasino celebrated their 68th wedding anniversary
with family and friends at a Keystone Seniors luncheon meeting at The
Castaway on June 7. The event also was held in recognition of Mary’s
90th birthday June 4.
Mariano read a special message to Mary, telling her how special
she is to him.
The couple was married on June 1, 1935, at Mount Carmel Catholic
Church in Rochester, N.Y. They have lived for 58 years in the same
Burbank home they built in 1945.
Mariano is president of the Keystone Seniors and he and Mary have
been dedicated to the club’s community service mission for more than
a decade. He has planned many fund-raising trips to Laughlin and Las
Vegas, bringing thousands of dollars to the club for special projects
over the past 12 years.
They have been members of the Italian Catholic Federation Branch
101 at St. Finbar’s Church. Mariano is a longtime member of the De
Bell Golf Club and plays golf twice a week. He will be 90 in
December.
He worked behind the scenes in movies since the early 1940s at
Paramount, RKO, Columbia and Warner Bros. with such stars as Bette
Davis, Red Skelton, Frank Sinatra, the Three Stooges and others. He
has been property master for such television shows as “Lassie,” “I
Love Lucy” and “The Line Up.”
After retiring in 1976, he and Mary have kept busy with their
family, friends, travel and community involvement. Mary’s recipes of
Italian dishes have spread throughout their circles, including a
sauce recipe combining both her mother and mother-in-law’s secrets.
The couple has two children, Gino Tomasino of Garden Grove and
Linda Scheck of Newport Beach; three grandchildren; and one
great-granddaughter, with one great-grandson due in November.
