Volunteers stand up for pets

People who love animals have the opportunity to make the lives of
orphaned pets happier.
The Volunteers of the Burbank Animal Shelter will host the
shelter’s 2003 fund-raiser, “Stand Up for the Animals,” beginning at
6 p.m. Oct. 19 at The Castaway.
“We will open with a silent auction, and have fabulous prizes
including hotel accommodations, concert tickets, spa certificates,
tickets to Disneyland and Universal Studios, gift baskets and a
gigantic surfboard,” said Eva Sippel, president of the volunteers.
Sippel said that anyone who wishes to donate an item for the
silent auction will be recognized with a “thank you” in the evening’s
souvenir program.
Although the event is selling out quickly, Sippel said some
tickets are still available.
“One hundred percent of the money the volunteers raise is used to
help the animals,” she said.
Denise Alexander, best known for her Emmy-nominated role of Lesley
Webber on “General Hospital,” will present awards to veterinarians
who have helped the volunteers in the past year, and actress Linda
Blair will co-host the event with English talk show host Clive
Pearse, Sippel said.
Entertainment will be performed by four comedians, including Kira
Soltanovich, a regular on the Oxygen Network’s comedy series, “Girls
Behaving Badly.”
Others in the comic lineup include Lisa Sundstedt, Leslie Carrara
and Michael Rabb.
Magician Chuck Griffith will entertain with sleight-of-hand tricks
during the cocktail hour.
