Three-alarm fire guts business
A three-alarm fire broke out Tuesday at a large one-story building at
202 W. Palm Ave.
The fire broke out shortly after 5:30 p.m. and gutted the front
portion of an automotive shop, Burbank Fire Capt. Bob Reinhardt said.
The fire was through the roof when units arrived. Several Burbank
engines and trucks and Glendale engines helped douse the fire.
Fire officials made it to the roof of the structure but went into
a defensive mode after realizing it was unstable, Reinhardt said.
The roof collapsed, and some damage was done to the neighboring
business, Modern Video. But the video store and the rear of the auto
refurbishing shop were largely spared, officials said.
The fire was extinguished in about an hour, Reinhardt said. No one
was hurt. An investigation and damage estimates were pending, he
said.
