Fund-raiser goes beyond expectations

NORTHWEST DISTRICT -- A fund-raiser last month to benefit the

Burbank Animal Shelter pulled in $12,000, shelter officials said this

week.

“Stand Up for the Animals” at the Castaway on Oct. 19 was

co-hosted by actress Linda Blair and English talk show host Clive

Pearse. The event included dinner, a silent auction and several

stand-up comedians.

“It was a huge success,” said Eva Sippel, president of the shelter

volunteers, who sponsored the event. “I was hoping to raise $10,000.”

The money raised, which included about $500 from a surfboard that

was auctioned will go to remodel the shelter’s cat room, Sippel said.
