* Burbank Patrolman Richard E. Kunkle died Sept. 22, 1961, after

being struck by a car while riding his motorcycle.

* Burbank Patrolman Joseph R. Wilson died June 17, 1961, after

being struck by a drunk driver who ran a red light.

* The last Burbank officer to be gunned down was Deputy City

Marshal Robert L. Normand, who died July 30, 1920, after being shot

by a suspect he was taking to jail. Norman died a year before the

Police Department was founded.

* The first law-enforcement slaying in Burbank occurred Nov. 16,

1914, when City Marshal Luther Colson was shot and murdered during an

ambush.
