GIRLS’ BASKETBALL

Providence 58, Flintridge Prep 38: Keyed by a 20-point run between

the second and third quarters, Providence (3-1) continued its early

season success with Friday’s pool-play win in the San Marino

Tournament.

Coach Andrew Bencze received a scoring balance from his starting

five, with Talar Bouldoukian leading the way with a game-high 13

points.

“Without a true scorer like Selina [Tech], we have to be a threat

from all five positions,” said Bencze, who received 12 points and

four assists from Heather Hansen, eight points and 10 rebounds from Megan Campbell, eight points and seven rebounds from Elizabeth

Reuter, and five points and four steals from Joyce Kattengil.

Providence 65, Holy Family 33: Megan Campbell tallied 16 points

and 19 rebounds as the Pioneers rolled to a pool-play victory

Thursday in the inaugural San Marino Tournament.

Providence (2-1) -- which also received 14 points and seven

rebounds from Elizabeth Reuter, and 10 points and eight rebounds from

Hannah Geralo -- blew the game open with a 17-point run in the second

half.

Calabasas 49, Burbank 29: Despite 12 points and six rebounds by

Alisha Brown, the visiting Bulldogs fell on Monday in their season

opener.

Pasadena 34, Burroughs 26: Janette Galindo scored 13 points

Thursday in the Indians’ pool-play loss in the Ladtcat Classic at

Brea-Olinda High.

Burroughs (0-2) led, 12-10, after one quarter.

BOYS’ BASKETBALL

Bell-Jeff 47, New Life 18: Aaron Rufus scored 10 points Wednesday

to lead the host Guards to a nonleague win in their season opener.

GIRLS’ SOCCER

Burroughs 1, Village Christian 1: Destanie Michaels scored the

Indians’ only goal Wednesday in a tie at home.

Goalkeeper Laura Scherr had nine saves for Burroughs (0-0-2).

Burroughs 1, Mira Costa 1: The Indians received a goal from Judith

Soto in recording a nonleague tie on Monday in their season opener.

GIRLS’ WATER POLO

Burroughs 8, Sherman Oaks Note Dame 6: Liz Seward tallied four

goals on Tuesday to lead the Indians to a nonleague victory at home

in their season opener.

Valeria Dutra added two goals, Christine Hyman had a goal and

Bailey Porter came up with the winning goal.
