Alleged hotel rapist in court today
A Georgia man is scheduled to be arraigned today on charges he raped
a co-worker while the two were staying in Burbank.
Kelly Stamps, 43, was arrested Saturday about 5 p.m. when the
unidentified woman, a fellow truck driver, told police that the man
forced her to have sex with him at the Burbank Airport Hilton, 2500
N. Hollywood Way, Burbank Police Sgt. William Berry said.
The alleged victim, a 30-year-old Ohio woman, told police that she
let Stamps into her hotel room and the two talked briefly before he
grabbed her and raped her, Berry said.
Stamps and the victim work as truck drivers for the same company,
which made the overnight reservations for them in separate rooms.
“Unfortunately, this is an acquaintance rape because this is
someone she knew and has been associated with for awhile, and she
didn’t expect this to happen,” Berry said. “It’s difficult to predict
something like this.”
Stamps is being held at Burbank Jail in lieu of $100,000 bail.
His arraignment will be in Burbank Superior Court.
