APPROVAL OF 2003-04 REVISED DISTRICT LIBRARY PLAN AND GRANT

APPLICATION

WHAT HAPPENED

The board unanimously approved the district’s revised Library

Plan, and also approved submission of a grant application under the

2003-04 California Public School Library Act Program.

WHAT IT MEANS

Goals of the library plan include annual assessments of collection

strengths and weaknesses in school libraries. If the grant

application is approved, the district will receive $21,715 in new

funding for school site libraries.

GRANT APPLICATION FOR BURROUGHS HIGH COMMUNICATIONS ACADEMY

WHAT HAPPENED

The board unanimously approved submission of an application for a

California Partnership Academy Grant to start an Academy of

Multimedia Communications at John Burroughs High School.

WHAT IT MEANS

Acceptance of the $42,000 grant obligates the district to fulfill

requirements to implement and operate the academy beginning in

September. The three-year academy would focus on preparing 10th-grade

students for media careers, and inspiring students who are not

motivated by a traditional educational curriculum.
