A break from holiday madness

Parents took the opportunity to do something they don’t often get the
chance to do -- ditch the kids, and not surprisingly, the kids had a
great time.
Golden State Gymnastics in Burbank opened its doors at 8:30 a.m.
Wednesday for an all-day holiday event for boys and girls, which
included gymnastic, arts and crafts, movies and a variety of other
events, leaving parents a little extra time to finish up last-minute
shopping or tie up loose ends at work before the Christmas holiday.
“This was something we just decided to do this year,” Batty said.
“Parents asked us about doing this after Thanksgiving. We did it and
it worked out, so we decided to do it again so they could have an
extra shopping day.”
Batty said they would consider the same thing next year but would
extend it over a weeklong period.
While some who got dropped off were regulars, a few others like
Lyric Breitengross, 5, were first-timers at this gym.
“I love gymnastics,” Lyric said. “The most fun was the trampoline
and bars.”
Amy Williams, 12, has been using the facility for a few years now
and said her parents appreciated having a little extra time to finish
things up for Christmas.
“My parents are home wrapping presents,” Amy said.
Molly Reiter, 9, a three-year veteran of the facility, said she
had the most fun icing and decorating the cookies.
