BURBANK ? It was a long way to go for the Burbank High boys’ tennis team in its CIF Southern Section Division II first-round playoff match.

The Bulldogs left early Thursday to make the long trip to San Luis Obispo to take on the Tigers.

It also turned out to be a long ride home after Burbank fell, 15-3, ending its season.

The Bulldogs (11-7) ? who didn’t qualify for the postseason for the first time in two decades last season ? were the No. 3 team from the Foothill League. San Luis Obispo (18-1) won the Pac-5 League championship.

“[San Luis Obispo] had some strong singles players,” Burbank Coach Paul McNiff said. “And we struggled a bit because our No. 2 singles player [Pete Sangsuriyakul] was sick and didn’t make the trip.”

Burbank’s best result came with its doubles team of Leo Kim and Tigran Yeremyan which defeated the No. 1 Tigers’ team, 6-1. Bulldog No. 1 singles Garn Sangsuriyakul won, 6-3, and No. 3 Vahe Vartunian won, 6-3.
