PLANNING BOARD APPEAL

The City Council upheld a resolution to uphold the Planning Board’s conditions for a variance for a residential property on south Sheridan Street.

The project applicant, Michael Heaven, had argued that the conditions the board imposed in granting the variance would severely limit his ability to complete the project.

WHAT IT MEANS

Heaven will be prohibited from encroaching upon a 20-foot separation between his property and nearby single-family properties. The Planning Board approved a variance that is 5 feet less than the encroachment requested.

PLAN APPROVAL

The council approved a resolution that will allow a developer to move forward with plans to convert a three-story, 20-unit multifamily residential building with underground parking into a condominium complex.

The complex is located on East San Jose Avenue.

WHAT IT MEANS

The council’s vote was in accordance with the Community Development Department’s approval of the project, finding the conversion to be consistent with city code.

As a medium-density project, the conversion does not require a complete environmental analysis and will now move forward.
