ON THE AGENDA
The following items will be discussed at Thursday’s school board meeting.
CONTRACT NEGOTIATIONS
The board will consider the Burbank Teachers Assn.’s initial proposal for bargaining for the 2006-07 year.
Teachers wish to negotiate wages, heath care and the school calendar for 2007-08.
The district wishes to negotiate wages, health benefits and hours of employment.
WHAT TO EXPECT
The board will likely approve initial proposals to allow negotiating to begin.
INDUCTION PROGRAM
The board will consider approving a contract for an induction program for the teachers at Options for Youth charter schools.
About 10 Options for Youth teachers have preliminary credentials. In order to receive clear credentials, they must complete an approved induction program.
Options for Youth has asked the Burbank Unified School District to allow its teachers to participate in the district’s Beginning Teacher Support and Assessment Induction Program.
They would receive training and conduct observations and demonstration lessons with experienced teachers.
The estimated cost is $3,865 per teacher, said Deputy Supt. Joel Shapiro. The district would receive funding from Options for Youth for the induction services.
WHAT TO EXPECT
The board will likely approve the contract.
LANDSCAPING
The board will consider approving the closure of a maintenance contract.
District staff members have inspected the landscaping at Burbank High School and determined that it is complete.
With the board’s approval, Chief Facilities Officer Craig R. Jellison will close the contract.
WHAT TO EXPECT
The board will likely approve the contact.
FIRE SPRINKLER SYSTEM
The board will also consider approving the closure of a contract for work on sprinkler systems.
The alterations of the fire-sprinkler systems — to bring the system up to current code — for Burbank High School’s auditorium were inspected and determined to be complete.
With the board’s approval, Jellison will close the contract.
WHAT TO EXPECT
The board will likely approve the contract.
