The Make a Difference food drive day is from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. with volunteers collecting food donations in front of Burbank markets. Burbank’s Temple Beth Emet will observe “Mitzvah Day” from 9:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. There will be a car wash to raise funds for social service agencies in the community. Also, beginning at 9 a.m. temple members will be stuffing backpacks full of school supplies for homeless children. They will also be writing letters of friendship and gratitude to members of the American armed forces and the Israeli Defense Forces. The Burbank Historical Society presents “Once Upon a Dime,” a program by John La Monte at 2 p.m. at Gordon R. Howard Museum 115 N. Lomita St., Burbank. La Monte will give a talk, show a display of museum quality collection artifacts and present a re-creation of an early Tom Mix radio show, from a time when a dime went a long way.
