Disney plans version of parenting website

Walt Disney Co. will launch a test version of an informational website aimed at parents later this week.

DisneyFamily.com will provide Internet searches and articles on education, foods and care for babies and children. The site will eventually increase to 1,000 topics that may be broadened by users.

The “Family 1,000” is a list of websites pertaining to family needs compiled by Disney that will change according to user nominations and ratings of the sites.

The site will stay in its testing version until this summer and create revenues by using advertisements of text ads.

More than 30,000 mothers were asked what they wanted in a site like DisneyFamily.com.

Disney products and the promotion of Disney films will be included in the site’s content but there will also be similar products from different companies available as well.
