ON THE TOWN:Doctors hit the runway for show

There were several doctors in the house when Providence St. Joseph Medical Center Guild presented its fashion show luncheon Saturday at the Universal Sheraton Hotel in Universal City.

Nine doctors consented to model men’s wear by Sy Devore during the fashion show. And while some looked very uncomfortable hearing the cheers from the mostly female audience, others took the runway — and the attention — all in stride.

The doctors-turned-models were Mark Botnick, radiation oncology; Robert Feinfield, ophthalmology; Eric Feit, internal medicine; Rex Hoffman, radiation oncology; Stephen McNeese, plastic surgery; Raul Mena, medical director of the planned Roy and Patricia Disney Cancer Center; Raffi-Jean Mesrobian, otolaryngology; August Silva, cardiology; and Stephen Yacoubian, orthopedic surgery. Also joining the lineup of male models was Patrick Petre, medical center administrator.

Proceeds will go to the guild’s $1-million pledge to the proposed Roy and Patricia Disney Cancer Center.

The day began with an array of vendors selling jewelry, handbags and hats and other accessories. Following a welcome by guild President Terry Campbell and chairwoman Donna Mahoney, the Rev. James A. Toal performed the invocation. Members and guests socialized over lunch before watching a lively dance introduction and then the fashion show. Carin Homenas produced the event, which had the theme, “All That Jazz.” Fashions from Robert Ellis, The Lourdes Chavez Collection and Red Carpet Designs by Robin Hall were a big hit.

Assisting with the event were co-chairwoman Angie Scholl, and members Marian Enos, Eileen Asheghian, Lucy Brown, Teri Lee, Jo Massimini, Chik Smaldino, Patt Scully, Janice Khoury, Kathleen Marsden, Maria Balke, Jerry Delauney, Marilu Crowley, Claire Loughlin, Dodee Packard, Ollie Vick, Wanda Bistagne, Julie McArdle, Sharon Grooms, Grace Mylroie Patz , Lori Riela, Genia Beccarelli, Linda Brundage, Irene Murgida, Marie Piteo, Jackie Van Beveren, DeeDee Walser, Maureen Walsh, Rose Pastula, Susan Raisin, Eileen Porcaro and Haline Heinstadt.
