College gets new board member

David R. Misch, chairman and chief executive officer of Mellon 1st Business Bank, was announced Friday as a new member of the Woodbury University Board of Trustees.

Misch currently handles the delivery of banking services for professional practices and small- to medium-sized businesses in several locations around Southern California.

He has been in banking for at least 18 years. Misch was the director of Corporate Strategy & Development for Mellon Financial Corp. and was also the chief credit officer of the corporation.

He received a bachelor’s degree in technical writing and economics and a master’s degree in business administration/finance from Pennsylvania State University.

Woodbury University has 31 members on its board of trustees including trustees emeriti. Many of them are alumni and business owners or CEOs. All are current or former business professionals in various mediums including health care, banking, law and real estate.

Leadership classes taking applications

Beginning in September, Leadership Burbank, a program designed to groom a different group of community leaders in Burbank every year, will begin classes.

The space available for the nine-month class is 25 students. Classes meet from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. one Friday a month. The application deadline is July 31.

Each year, the class learns about agencies within the city and completes at least two philanthropic projects to benefit the Burbank community.

Tuition for the program is $1,100, payable in full no later than September. Employers or organizations may sponsor a class member but only up to $1,000.
