Wendy L. Sahl and Kenneth W. Wainwright Jr., both of Burbank, were married at Wrightsville Beach, N.C.
The Rev. Larry Stamper officiated.
The ceremony was held on the sand at water’s edge where thunderstorms continued all day, stopping at the last possible moment. The sun broke through the clouds as the vows were said.
Angela Lee was the matron of honor.
The bridesmaid was Katherine Walter and Riley Somers was the flower girl.
Matt Nimtz was the best man.
Guests included the bride’s grandparents, Mrs. and Mrs. Paul Sahl, brother of the groom Ryan Wainwright and his wife, Mary, childhood friends Lindsay Maas, Jennifer Oundjian, Bill Reider and Betty Reider.
A reception was held at the Bluewater Grill.
The cake was pale blue with white chocolate sea shells and Swiss dots.
The bride is the daughter of Kathy and Steven Sahl of San Pedro.
She is a graduate of John Burroughs High School, University of Judaism and Loyola Marymount and has a bachelor’s degree in political science and master’s in education.
She is employed as a literacy coach for the Fayetteville, N.C., School District.
The groom is the son of Beatrice and Kenneth Wainwright of Burbank.
He is a graduate of Burbank High School, West Point and Oxford University and has a bachelor’s degree in international history and master’s of philosophy in Middle Eastern studies.
He is a captain in the U.S. Army, based in Ft. Bragg, N.C. The couple’s honeymoon is pending U.S. Army cooperation. They have made their new home in Ft. Bragg, N.C.
