When Yosef Adde’s family wholesale jewelry business first opened, the idea of the World Wide Web was several decades away.

Now, Adylon Diamonds & Bridal Jewelry, which opened a showroom in Burbank this month, has combined traditional storefront sales with the convenience and widespread accessibility of the Internet.

“The Internet has really changed the jewelry industry,” Adde said. “Unfortunately, lots of jewelry businesses haven’t changed.”

At Adylon, customers can search an online inventory of about 17,000 loose diamonds — even signing on to the Web on a monitor inside the store — using the company’s website to customize their own jewelry, Adde said.

But what separates Adylon from companies that exclusively do business over the Internet is a physical location where customers can bring their jewelry for cleaning, warranty issues, service or even upgrades, Adde said.

“It provides the opportunity that they always have someone to go to,” he said.

“With the Internet, it’s a lot of take it as it is.”

Adde plans to open six or seven locations throughout Southern California.

“I didn’t want six big stores,” he said.

“I wanted something smaller. My goal isn’t to have stores, it’s to have showrooms.”

And with multiple showrooms in place, Adde would rotate the various collections among the different sites to expose them to more people, he said.

“It’s a very lean, efficient way of operating,” he said.

“And this way you don’t have merchandise sitting around.”

Adde’s business model has met with favorable reviews from other jewelers, with whom he has professional relationships.

“He has some really good ideas,” said Shant Hovespian, owner and operator of Danhov, which has served as a vendor for Adylon for about three years.

Adde, who has 11 years in the jewelry business, moved to Glendale when he first came into the United States from Canada and chose Burbank as a location for his showroom because of its community feel.

“It’s a very nice little place, where it’s got a good school system and a good mix of people who live here population wise,” he said. “And, of course, an excellent Police Department.”

Adylon Diamonds & Bridal Jewelry is at 358 N. First St. and can be reached at (818) 955-8530 or online at www.adylon.com.
