Arrest made in stabbing death

BURBANK — Police arrested a man Wednesday in the stabbing death of a Hillside resident whose body was found on a neighbor’s porch Tuesday morning.

The suspect’s name was not released, and details of the slaying are still murky, but police identified the victim as Glen Giles, 47, whose naked body was found with multiple stab wounds by the neighbor on Joaquin Drive, police said.

Burbank Police detectives on Wednesday identified a “person of interest, interviewed him and arrested someone,” Sgt. Travis Irving said. “This is a murder investigation.”

Giles lived across the street from where his body was found, in the 3000 block of Joaquin, in a house that had been under construction for about a year, neighbors said.

Police do not yet know how Giles went from his house to the neighbor’s across the street, but a trail of blood dotted the street that divided their homes, Irving said.

As police continued to interview a suspect, details about Giles became clearer Wednesday.

He was the director of new business development at Hallmark Data Systems, a company that helps businesses publish industry specific magazines, according to the organization’s president and chief executive, Jim Kuchinsky.

Giles did not show up for work on Tuesday, but was a model employee, Kuchinsky said.

“This is a guy that will be missed in the industry,” he said. “He was a great guy.”

Others who had worked with him described Giles as a peaceful man.

“I cannot believe that somebody murdered him,” said Rita Stanley, 70, who worked with Giles in the publishing industry for more than 30 years. “He was very kind and good at what he did. I can’t see how the man had any enemies.”

Kuchinsky described Giles as a “husky” man who was about 6 foot 4 inches tall and about 340 pounds.

As someone who knew Giles well, Stanley was shocked that somebody physically got the better of him.

“He was a big guy,” she said. “That somebody was able to kill him, I don’t believe.”

Stanley said that Giles never married but is survived by his sister, brother-in-law and mother.
