“All About Bees” is the topic for speaker Kerry Cox when she visits the Burbank — Valley Garden Club at 10 a.m. at the home of Margie Vierra, 1134 Elmwood Ave., Burbank. Cox will cover the life cycle of bees, amazing bee facts, bee-friendly gardening and the factors that are killing bees. Special guest of honor will be Mary Waddington-Merrit, district director for the San Fernando District of the National Garden Clubs Inc. The club’s scholarship chairman is seeking graduating high school students who are planning on university courses in fields related to gardening. “Grand Finale Gala” Dinner/Dance, sponsored by BCR “a place to grow” and Burbank Department of Park, Recreation and Community Services will be from 6:45 to 9:15 p.m. at McCambridge Recreation Center, 1515 N. Glenoaks Blvd., Burbank. Adults and teenagers 16 and older with developmental disabilities are invited. BCR provides day programs in Burbank for children and adults with developmental disabilities. The Horror Writers Assn. for writers of dark fiction will have its annual Bram Stoker Awards presentation through Sunday at the Burbank Airport Marriott Hotel, 2500 Hollywood Way, Burbank. Writers and readers will gather for panels, author readings and signings, a dealer’s room, parties and the grand finale Saturday with the presentation of the Bram Stoker Awards, the highest honor in the horror writing field.
