The Providence St. Joseph Medical Center Guild celebrated 65 years of dedicated service to the Burbank care facility as it presented the annual luncheon and fashion show fundraiser Saturday at the Sheraton Universal Hotel.

Staged with a Kentucky Derby theme, the “Run for the Roses” fundraiser began with an opportunity for guild members, supporters and guests to peruse an extensive boutique featuring clothing, jewelry and handbags before entering the Grand Ballroom for the main event.

Once situated at beautifully decorated tables and welcomed by Guild President Kathleen Marsden and Event Director Julie McArdle, the 400-plus attendees enjoyed the fashion show, which was produced by Lucinda Miedema and featured styles from the Carlisle Collection, Elizabeth Saba, Ina Soltani and Lyn Frances Hats. Male models who strutted their stuff on the catwalk were Brian Thorne of the medical center foundation, and local physicians including Boyd Flinders, Augusto Silva, Rex Hoffman, Stephen Yacoubian, John McGroarty, Raul Mena, Ray Tatevossian and George Orloff.

This annual affair is the guild’s major fundraiser for the year. Proceeds from Saturday’s event will complete the guild’s pledge of $1 million to the Roy and Patricia Disney Family Cancer Center. The guild’s next endeavor will be to raise $500,000 for the new Hycy and Howard Hill Neuroscience Institute at Providence St. Joseph Medical Center, which focuses on the care and treatment of victims of stroke, brain tumors, multiple sclerosis, Parkinson’s disease, Alzheimer’s disease and other neurological disorders.

Among those credited for the success of the event were committee members Maureen Walsh, Wanda Bistagne, Sharon Grooms, Marion Enos, Donna Mahoney, Ollie Vick, Patt Scully, Maria Balke, Terri Lee, Lucy Brown, Lori Riela, Patty Cassidy, Diane Jones, Janice Khoury, Dee Dee Walser and Dee Call, and guild board members Carmen Powers, Terry Campbell, Marilu Crowley, Kay Lusitana, Audrey Yates, Karen Barragan and Angie Scholl.

Members of the guild’s executive board in attendance included Sharon Reid, Jerri Delauney, Charlotte Abel, Grace Mylroie Patz and Chik Smaldino, who was decked out in one of the afternoon’s most elaborate chapeaus. Others who donned fanciful hats in keeping with the Kentucky Derby theme were Linda Jamentz, Pat Noller, Joyce Matlock and Megan McArdle.

Other attendees whose work and participation made for a winning day included Shirley Lesher, Mark McArdle, Sister Rose Byrne, Pam Corradi, Rende Rae Mora, Beverly Jean Davies, Tish Hawkins Sellers, Sophie Goodsell, Elaine Paonessa, Sue Ann Gordon, Rose Marie Whitten, Tracy Canfield, Paula Davis, Judy Gragg, Deborah Spang, Judy Pierce, Doris Palmer and Sharon Terranova.
