A 77-year-old Burbank man died early Wednesday from injuries he sustained when he was struck Monday while in a West Victory Boulevard crosswalk.

The man, Michel Barone, was taken to Providence Holy Cross Medical Center in Mission Hills after suffering serious head trauma, Burbank police said.

Los Angeles County coroner officials said Barone died at 1:20 a.m. Wednesday, but they were still waiting on the results of an autopsy to determine the official cause of death.

The investigation remained ongoing Thursday, and authorities said no charges had been filed against the 48-year-old Burbank driver, Manny Castillo.

According to Burbank Police Sgt. Robert Quesada, it may be up to four weeks before the investigation will be complete.

Barone was struck at 5:17 p.m. Monday as he used a crosswalk at West Victory Boulevard and Pepper Street — about one block from his home.

Castillo was traveling northbound on Pepper Street when his 2001 Toyota Tacoma hit Barone during a left turn, police said.

The intersection of West Victory Boulevard and Pepper Street is unsignaled.

Castillo, who was released at the scene, “showed no signs of being under the influence,” Quesada said.

Barone’s family could not be reached for comment.
