The city of Burbank kicked off its yearlong Centennial Celebration with a bang Friday night. Hundreds of revelers gathered from 6 to 9 p.m. under the Olive Avenue bridge to usher in the new year while listening to the band Stone Soul and indulging in hors d’ouvres provided by Cartoon Network. Midway through the evening, the Burbank Tournament of Roses Assn. brought out its entry in the Rose Parade titled “Centennial Celebration.” Organizers led a countdown at 9 p.m. coinciding with New York’s celebration of the new year that culminated with a surprise display of fireworks from the Burbank float. The float then set off for its trek to Pasadena.
