Vehicle burglaries draw crime alert

Burbank police issued a citywide crime alert Tuesday evening after a rash of vehicle burglaries in west Burbank late last week.

Possibly 18 vehicles were hit by the same burglars between the 300 and 1300 blocks of North Frederic Street, North Lincoln Street, North Myers Street and North Lamer Street on the crime spree Jan. 6 and 7, said Sgt. Robert Quesada.

“Most of the incidents occurred in the evening, and it seems like they were going right up the streets,” Quesada said. “If the cars were unlocked, they would just take whatever they can.”

The majority of the police reports show no signs of forced entry into any of the vehicles parked along the streets.

Global-positioning satellite systems, cash and other small items were taken from the vehicles. A tire was also stolen from a car in the area, but police have not linked the incident to the other burglaries.

Burbank police have no suspects for the thefts.

“Residents need to lock their cars and hide any valuables,” Quesada said. “Thieves want to take the path of least resistance, and if they see something, they’re going to go for it.”
