Police use Taser to subdue violent naked woman

Burbank police were forced to use a Taser gun to subdue a naked 43-year-old woman Thursday afternoon after she attacked the officers outside her apartment on the 900 block of West Angeleno Avenue.

Neighbors called Burbank police at 2:32 p.m. to report that the woman, who officials did not identify, was throwing items at car windows, according to the police report.

When officers arrived and confronted the woman, she told them a man inside her home was causing her to act erratically, said police Sgt. Robert Quesada.

When officers entered her apartment and determined no one else was there, she began throwing her possessions at them and managed to kick one officer in the groin, according to the report.

To avoid grabbing the woman for fear of hurting her, one officer fired a single Taser shot, Quesada said, temporarily stunning her so she could be subdued.

Paramedics treated her at the scene before transporting her to a local hospital.

The woman, who now faces charges for vandalism and assaulting a police officer, was taken to a psychiatric treatment center for evaluation.

The police officer sustained no permanent injuries, Quesada said.

The assault was just one of several high-profile incidents in Burbank on Thursday.

Later that afternoon at 3:35 p.m., Burbank police received calls of a man waving a gun near the intersection of North Glenoaks Boulevard and Winona Avenue.

When a Burbank police officer approached the intersection in his vehicle, the disheveled man pointed what appeared to be a gun at the officer.

As the officer prepared to confront 20-year-old Davis Mears of Glendale, the man threw the fake semi-automatic weapon on the ground and walked away, Quesada said.

After several orders to stop walking, Mears eventually stopped and was taken into custody.

Mears was booked on suspicion of assault with a deadly weapon on a police officer and remains in custody. His bail was set at $20,000.

Two armed street robberies by the same suspects also occurred on Thursday, one near the intersection of West Olive Avenue and North Florence Avenue and the other near the intersection of North San Fernando Boulevard and North Hollywood Way, police reported.
