A retired Burbank police officer shot and killed an armed robber Friday at McDonald’s in Sunland, police said.

Los Angeles police did not immediately release the identity of the retired Burbank officer pending an investigation into the incident, which occurred about 10:47 a.m. The name of the dead man also has not been released.

The retired officer walked into the McDonald’s and found a man attempting to rob restaurant employees at gunpoint, said Los Angeles Police Officer Christopher No. The officer then fatally shot the robber.

“He pretty much walked into it,” No said.

The armed robber was pronounced dead at the scene. An investigation into the incident is ongoing, he added.
