Alleged bank robber charged, two arrested and Man robs restaurant

A Burbank man pleaded not guilty this week to robbing a bank inside Pavilions Market last month.

Jimmy Barbarino, 44, was arrested after getting in a traffic accident May 6 in Glendale, said Burbank Sgt. John Pfrommer.

A warrant was out for Barbarino’s arrest after he was identified as a suspect in the May 2 bank robbery.

He is being held in lieu of $90,000 and is scheduled to appear for a preliminary hearing May 23 in Los Angeles County Superior Court.

Barbarino allegedly told the bank teller inside the grocery store at 1110 W. Alameda Ave. that he had a handgun inside his black backpack when he demanded the cash. The employees, fearing for their safety, handed over the cash, said Burbank Police Sgt. Robert Quesada.

Market burglarized, two arrested

A Burbank man and a 17-year-old were arrested May 6 on suspicion of trying to steal two 12-packs of beer from Neighborhood Market.

A neighbor called Burbank police after hearing the sound of the alarm and breaking glass of the store at 1911 N. Glenoaks Blvd. Officers arrested 18-year-old Gregory Mendez, of Burbank, and the 17-year-old juvenile, whom police declined to identify because of his age, on suspicion of burglary.

Mendez was released on $20,000 bail, and the 17-year-old was released to one of his parents.

Man robs Moana Hawaiian Barbeque

A man stole an undisclosed amount of cash from Moana Hawaiian Barbeque at 150 N. San Fernando Blvd. on May 6 after handing the cashier a handwritten demand note.

The note threatened to harm the cashier if she did not hand over the cash, according to police. The man was described as white, about 5 feet 11 inches tall with brown eyes. He was wearing a black hooded sweater and black jeans, according to police.
