Man robs El Torito at gunpoint

Burbank police continue to search for a man who stole $4,000 at gunpoint from El Torito after possibly entering through the roof.

Around 2 a.m. May 21, the suspect entered the restaurant at 3113 W. Olive Ave. with a handgun around two hours after the bar had closed.

The man, who was about 5 feet 9 inches tall and wearing sunglasses and a black ski mask, threatened two managers who were still in the restaurant and ordered them to open the office that contained the safe, according to police.

Once inside the office, the suspect forced the employees to put roughly $4,000 into a black bag.

The case is under investigation, but Burbank police suspect the man might have entered through the roof hatch after detectives found it open, Officer Joshua Kendrick said.

There were no pry marks on the hatch, he added.

The man was described as slender and wearing a gray hooded sweatshirt with orange stripes, dirty blue jeans and white tennis shoes.

“After he got the money he shut the office door, and it is unknown how he left the restaurant,” Kendrick said.

Calls to El Torito were not immediately returned Wednesday.
