A 53-year-old woman was arrested on Tuesday after she allegedly threw a potted plant to the downstairs balcony of a neighbor who confronted her about smoking cigarettes, Burbank police said.

The woman, Maria Puerta, was arrested on suspicion of assault with a deadly weapon after the incident was reported at 12:40 p.m. The neighbor, 48-year-old Olman Flores, escaped injury by moving out of the way of the falling plant, police Sgt. Darin Ryburn said.

The incident was reportedly witnessed by another tenant at the building in the 300 block of Cornell Drive.

In another incident on the same day, a woman was arrested on suspicion of misdemeanor battery after allegedly slapping her boyfriend for smoking, police said.

She was arrested at the home in the 2100 block of Peyton Avenue at about 8 p.m., Ryburn said.
