Caltrans announces night closure of I-5

Share

A series of night closures on the Golden State (5) Freeway north of Burbank starts Sunday as crews prepare to construct a bridge connector for carpool lanes on the Hollywood (170) Freeway.

The HOV-connector is part of a $140-million project through the California Department of Transportation to build carpool lanes along the I-5 corridor.

To build the temporary construction supports for the bridge, Caltrans plans to completely close the northbound I-5 in one direction at a time between Branford Street and Sheldon Street from midnight to 6 a.m., Sunday through Feb. 1.

The same section of freeway will be closed to southbound traffic Feb. 1 - 3, then again Feb. 5 and 6, and Feb. 12 through 17, according to a notice from the Caltrans

When the southbound lanes are closed, traffic will be detoured off the I-5 at Osborne Street. When the northbound lanes are closed, traffic will be detoured off the freeway at Sheldon Street.

Residents may hear the nighttime construction, but Caltrans said the noise would not exceed state and federal regulations.

A list of other related ramp and lane closures is available on the city of Burbank’s website: https://www.ci.burbank.ca.us/index.aspx?page=25&recordid=1144
