A man allegedly bit a Burbank police officer on the hand over the weekend after the officer tried to get the man, who allegedly was trespassing, to leave a hospital emergency room.

At about 1:30 a.m. Saturday, Demetrius Adam Moser, 41, was smoking in the emergency department at Providence St. Joseph Medical Center and refused to leave, Police Lt. Eduardo Ruiz said. When officers contacted Moser and asked him to leave, he complied.

But an hour later, police were again called to the emergency department because Moser had returned and again refused to leave.

“[Hospital] staff wanted Moser off the property as he was trespassing at this point,” Ruiz said.

When officers arrived, Ruiz said Moser’s pants were pulled down around his knees.

As the officers were taking Moser into custody, he allegedly bit one of the officers on the hand, Ruiz said.

The 24-year-old officer, who was not identified, sustained minor injuries.

Moser was arrested on suspicion of trespassing and assault on an officer, Ruiz said.
