Good morning, readers. Today is Saturday, July 21, 2012. As a native of the San Fernando Valley, I'm always defensive when someone (usually a transplant) dismisses my hometown as a vast stretch of useless suburbia attached to Los Angeles.

A former North Hollywood High School student is under scrutiny by state officials after allegedly posting photographs of standardized test questions on the Internet. The student has switched schools, though, so both campuses are at risk of losing their API scores. L.A. Times

A Studio City man was arrested Thursday after being discovered with a loaded handgun in his luggage at the Bob Hope Airport in Burbank, according the police. Burbank Leader

A woman driving in Granada Hills tried to run a red light at 70 mph and allegedly ended up hitting about eight cars. Daily News

During the first 'Carmageddon,' the city was eerily quiet. It was like an earthquake had just struck the region; the freeways were empty and stores were deserted.
