Mariposa equestrian bridge to close again for repairs

Share

The Mariposa Street equestrian bridge will be closed Monday for 12 days as crews make repairs and reinforce the 73-year-old structure.

The closure, announced by Burbank officials on Thursday, will be in effect from July 30 and Aug. 10. During that time, the bridge near South Mariposa Street and Valleyheart Drive will be closed to horse and pedestrian traffic.

During a regular inspection, city officials determined that the bridge had suffered enough cracks in its welding points to warrant repairs in May. The latest closure will take place so that crews can replace worn wood planks.

The bridge must be closed completely to avoid startling passing horses during the repairs.

[For the record 2:06 p.m.: An earlier version of this post incorrectly referenced to the work done in May as being the project for the latest closure.]
