Burbank police make DUI, battery arrest

A 61-year-old man was arrested on suspicion of driving drunk Sunday after he struck a car and then struggled with officers when he refused to get out of his car, police said.

William Treadwell was arrested about 2:55 p.m. on suspicion of battery on a police officer and driving under the influence, Burbank Police Sgt. Darin Ryburn said.

Witnesses reported seeing Treadwell hit another car with his Chrysler minivan in the Pavilions parking lot in the 1100 block of West Alameda Avenue.

They told police Treadwell was sitting in his car near the vehicle that he struck, Ryburn said.

Officers asked him to roll down his window, but he ignored them, Ryburn said. Treadwell instead put on a pair of sunglasses, Ryburn added, and remained “motionless” as officers talked to him.

He then reached for his key in the ignition when officers opened the car door and got a strong whiff of alcohol, Ryburn said.

They asked Treadwell to exit his car, but he continued to refuse to talk, Ryburn said.

He then turned the key and tried to pull the door closed, pushing the officers away, Ryburn said.

Officers removed and handcuffed Treadwell as he allegedly tried to kick them.
