Burbank police have identified the man shot to death outside an apartment building Thursday night as 43-year-old Antwan Haroun.

The shooting took place in the 700 block of Providencia Avenue, across the street from Joaquin Miller Elementary School, shortly before 11 p.m., police said.

Officers arrived on the scene after receiving reports of shots fired and found Haroun lying on a porch. He was taken to Los Angeles County-USC Medical Center, where he was pronounced dead, police said.

“He’d just arrived home from work when he was approached and shot several times,” Assistant county Chief Coroner Ed Winter said.

Police detectives continued to investigate the scene of the shooting Friday morning, searching for leads and a possible motive.

A friend of Haroun at the scene who declined to give his name said “he was like a brother to me.”

“We don’t know what happened,” he said.

Anyone with information on the shooting was encouraged to call Burbank police Det. Jeff Lamoureaux at (818) 238-3246.
