Suspect held in fatal North Hollywood hit-and-run

A 21-year-old man was being held by police in connection with a hit-and-run that killed a 72-year-old pedestrian early Sunday morning in North Hollywood, authorities said.

A witness called 911 about 5 a.m. when a black GMC pickup struck the man in the 8100 block of Lankershim Boulevard and drove off, said the Los Angeles Police Department. Emergency workers took the man to an area hospital, where he was pronounced dead.

Two hours later, a 21-year-old man was taken to a local hospital after a crash on the 5 Freeway, police said. Investigators discovered the 21-year-old had property “possibly belonging” to the 72-year-old and later determined he was allegedly involved in the fatal hit and run.
