A 54-year-old woman was robbed in Burbank Thursday of more than $1,000 in cash shortly after leaving a Bank of America, police said.

The robbery took place after the woman left the bank in the 3400 block of West Magnolia Blvd.
The suspect was described as a white man with black hair, 30 to 35 years old and about 5 feet, 7 inches tall. He was wearing a striped shirt and blue jeans.

Police say he grabbed her in an alley in the 1800 block of Hollywood Way at around 6:30 p.m., hit her shoulder and upper back and yanked her purse, said Burbank Police Sgt. Darin Ryburn.

The woman yelled for help as she clutched on to her purse while the suspect dragged her for several feet, Ryburn said.

Once he got the woman’s purse, the man ran into a waiting getaway vehicle -- a silver Mercedes SUV, police said. A description of the driver was unavailable.

Police urged anyone with information about the incident to call the department at (818) 238-3210.
