Disney files papers to sell George Lucas’ $2-billion stake
Walt Disney Co. registered “Star Wars” creator George Lucas’ $2.02-billion stake in the company for possible sale, allowing the filmmaker to sell the stock at his discretion.
Lucas, 68, holds 37.1 million shares of Disney, a 2.1% stake, according to a regulatory filing by the film, TV and theme-park company. The action doesn’t mean a sale is imminent. Disney completed its $4.06- billion purchase of his Lucasfilm Ltd. on Dec. 21.
Lynne Hale, a Lucasfilm spokeswoman, declined to comment, referring inquiries to Disney, which also wouldn’t comment.
