Frutos leads ‘very, very preliminary’ voter returns for Burbank City Council primary

With just eight out of 42 precincts reporting in the Burbank primary election, City Council challenger Robert Frutos has the early lead, but the results could change significantly as new reports start coming in.

As of 10:55 p.m., Frutos led the six candidate field with 1,076 votes. Incumbents Jess Talamentes and David Gordon rounded out the top three, with 988 and 980 votes, respectively, city officials reported.

Incumbent Dave Golonski came in at No. 4 with 725 votes. Dave Nos and Juan Gullien Jr. rounded out the field fifth and sixth place, respectively.

The results are “very, very preliminary,” said city spokesman Drew Sugars.

Two years ago, in his first run for the council, Frutos narrowly lost the election by 86 votes. To date, Frutos has raised more than $14,000, which includes a $4,200 loan from himself, for his campaign.

Interim City Clerk Zizette Mullins is leading the race to keep her seat, having garnered 961 votes. Candidate Gloria Salas is in second place.

In the Burbank Unified school board race, incumbent Larry Applebaum had 877, challengers Arnold Aghakhanian and Charlene Tabet had 768 and 537 votes, respectively. Challengers David Dobson came in at 516 and Steve Ferguson had 492.

Interim City Treasurer Debbie Kutka is running unchallenged.
