A 32-year-old man was arrested after allegedly stabbing his roommate multiple times Tuesday, Burbank police said.

The suspect — identified as Alvaro Laborin — reportedly called police at about 8:45 a.m. alleging that he was being stabbed by his roommate, said Burbank Police Sgt. Darin Ryburn.

But when police arrived on scene in the 600 block of East San Jose, they discovered Laborin outside the apartment complex holding a knife, without any stab wounds, Ryburn said.

Officers then found the roommate, 46-year-old Kenneth Villeneuve, in the stairwell of the building suffering from multiple stab wounds to his upper torso, Ryburn said.

He was transported to the hospital and was reportedly in stable condition Tuesday afternoon.

It was not immediately known what the pair was fighting about, Ryburn said.

Laborin was arrested on suspicion of attempted murder and is being held in lieu of $1 million bail. He is due in court later this week.

[For the Record, 2:33 p.m.: Police initially identified Alvaro Laborin’s first name as being Rene.]
