Delays on I-5 in Burbank expected for carpool lane construction

Detours and closures are en route for drivers on the Golden State (5) Freeway as the California Department of Transportation moves forward with its plan to install new carpool lanes.

Caltrans’ $57.8-million effort to construct new carpool lanes in both directions of the I-5 from Magnolia Boulevard to the Ventura (134) Freeway will lead to closures from Saturday to April 20.

The off-ramp for Western Avenue on the southbound 5 and the off-ramp for Alameda Avenue on the northbound 5 will have long-term closures, and are expected to open in May.

The short-term closures are as follows:

- Southbound I-5 Western Avenue Westbound and Eastbound Off-Ramps: 7 p.m. to 6 a.m. and 9 a.m. to 3 p.m.
- Southbound I-5 Western Avenue Westbound and Eastbound On Ramps: 7 p.m. to 6 a.m. and 9 a.m. to 3 p.m

- Southbound I-5 Eastbound and Westbound Alameda Avenue Off Ramp: 7 p.m. to 6 a.m. and 9 a.m. to 3 p.m.
- Southbound I-5 Eastbound and Westbound Alameda Avenue On Ramp: 7 p.m. to 6 a.m. and 9 a.m. to 3 p.m.

- Northbound I-5 Eastbound and Westbound Alameda Avenue Off Ramp: 8 p.m. to 6 a.m.
- Northbound I-5 Western Avenue Eastbound and Westbound On Ramp: 7 p.m. to 6 a.m. and 9 a.m. to 3 p.m.
- Northbound I-5 Western Avenue Eastbound and Westbound Off Ramp: 7 p.m. to 6 a.m. and 9 a.m. to 3 p.m.
- Northbound I-5 Eastbound and Westbound Alameda Avenue On Ramp: 7 p.m. to 6 a.m. and 9 a.m. to 3 p.m.

- Southbound I-5 Westbound and Eastbound Burbank Boulevard On Ramp: 9 p.m. to 6 a.m.

- Northbound I-5 from SR-134 to Burbank Boulevard: Up to two lanes – 10 p.m. to 6 a.m.
Four lanes: 1 a.m. to 5 a.m.

- Southbound I-5 Eastbound and Westbound Olive Avenue/Verdugo Avenue On-Ramp: 9 p.m. to 6 a.m.
- Southbound I-5 Eastbound and Westbound Olive Avenue/Verdugo Avenue Off Ramps: 7 p.m. to 6 a.m. and 9 a.m. to 3 p.m.

- Westbound SR-134 Connector to Northbound I-5: 11 p.m. to 6 a.m.
- Westbound SR-134 Northbound and Southbound San Fernando Road: 9 p.m. to 6 a.m.

- Northbound I-5 from Colorado Boulevard to SR-134: Up to three lanes – 10 p.m. to 5 a.m. and Four lanes - 1 a.m. to 5 a.m.

- Southbound Burbank Boulevard to SR-134: Up to three lanes – 10 p.m. to 6 a.m.

- Southbound I-5 Connector to Eastbound SR-134: 11 p.m. to 6 a.m.
- Northbound I-5 Eastbound and Westbound Olive Avenue/Verdugo Avenue On-Ramps: 7 p.m. to 6 a.m.
- Northbound I-5 Eastbound and Westbound Olive Avenue/Verdugo Avenue Off-Ramps: 9 p.m. to 6 a.m. and 9 a.m. to 3 p.m.

- Northbound I-5 Westbound Colorado Boulevard On Ramp: 10 p.m. to 6 a.m.
- Westbound SR-134 at I-5 intersection: Up to three lanes 12 a.m. to 6 a.m.
