Burbank Police to host drug take-back

Burbank police want your old prescription drugs, no questions asked.

In an effort to curb pill abuse and drug theft, Burbank police, in partnership with the federal Drug Enforcement Administration, are asking residents to drop off expired, unused, unwanted pills Saturday between 10 a.m. and 2 p.m. in the parking lot behind the Burbank police station.

The effort is part of a national campaign to reduce household access to leftover medications.

During the last take-back event in September, Burbank police collected 158 pounds of unwanted prescription drugs.

Citizens nationwide turned in 488,395 pounds of medication at the 5,263 drop-off locations that day, police said.

Nationwide last year, officials amassed more than 2 million pounds of drugs during the four take-back days.

Prescription drugs left at home are dangerous and are subject to misuse and abuse, said Burbank Police Officer Joshua Kendrick.
